Occupational health hazards that may be associated with video display terminals are examined. These include: radiation hazards due to optical, microwave, radio, and X-radiation; eyestrain resulting either from the display itself or from the workroom environment; and problems arising from work posture. An approach to image composition and animation with procedural models which uses data-flow concepts is presented. The characteristics of procedural models and data-flow theory are reviewed. The concept of procedural coherency is introduced, and a general method for `in-betweening' with procedural models is presented. When such models are described as functions, their composition into pictures can ... View full abstract»

An example is given of the use of lazy evaluation in computational geometry. Objects represented by quadtrees are computed only to the extent to which they are needed. A modified version of the data structure for quadtrees which allows for lazy evaluation is given. Algorithms for operations on these modified quadtrees are presented, and some of the results obtained in practice are shown. View full abstract»
