Experimental results have been obtained for a wide range of physical, flow, and thermal parameters in three models of underground electric cable systems. The results show that the laminar friction factors depend on cable configuration and have an upper limit of f ċ Re = 30. Laminar Nusselt numbers are independent of the skid wire roughness ratio and the Reynolds number but increase with incre... View full abstract»

Generating capacity reliability studies in interconnected systems normally consider the interconnecting facilities simply in terms of their transmission capabilities and only in certain cases include the associated probability of transmission unavailability. The unavailability parameter when included is usually a single steady state probability value. This paper illustrates the development of a re... View full abstract»

Automatic Voltage Regulator tuning for voltage control of power system generators has in most cases been done for the "open-circuit" condition of the synchronous generator. The basic machine equations and actual measurements on the generator indicate that the AVR operates in an entirely different control environment when the generator is connected on-line and operating at rated load conditions. Previous work using the Z-matrix in the analysis of contingencies has been limited to the determination of over-loaded lines. In developing countries, where the transmission systems are weak, low voltage may occur as a result of a contingency. This paper is a report on a high speed method of determining voltage changes caused by the loss of transmission elements. This is an extention of the previo... View full abstract»

The calculation of earth resistances by the average potential method has proved to give accurate results. Various publications [1], [2] shows that current distribution in the electrode has little effect on the calculated result assuming uniform current distribution. The above method however, requires that integration be carried along the electrode path [1]. For complex interconnected grounding ele... View full abstract»

A formulation for the airgap field distribution due to a single slot current has been found, allowing the construction of arbitrary windings by the superposition of these solutions.
