It is the purpose of this tutorial paper to place bispectrum estimation in a digital signal processing framework in order to aid engineers in grasping the utility of the available bispectrum estimation techniques, to discuss application problems that can directly benefit from the use of the bispectrum, and to motivate research in this area. Three general reasons are behind the use of bispectrum in... View full abstract»

The principle of maximum entropy has played an important role in the solution of problems in which the measurements correspond to moment constraints on some many-to-one mapping h(x). In this paper we explore its role in estimation problems in which the measured data are statistical observations and moment constraints on the observation function h(x) do not exist. We conclude that: 1) For the class... View full abstract»

As a result of the rapid development of Very Large Scale Integrated circuit (VLSI) technology, procedures for the analysis of these devices are evolving equally rapidly. While there are a number of factors involved with VLSI development, most are dependent on the exponentially increasing device complexity, as customers demand more and more low-cost reliable functions per chip. In order to accommod... View full abstract»

  • Pulse response characteristics for GaAs MESFET distributed amplifiers

    Publication Year: 1987, Page(s):956 - 957
Request permission for commercial reuse | Click to expandAbstract | PDF file iconPDF (187 KB)

The pulse response characteristics of a broad-band GaAs MESFET distributed amplifier were measured. The characteristics show close agreement with measured sinusoidal gain at small-signal levels, and the expected gain compression occurred for large-signal input. Pulse distortion was negligible even for pulse height comparable to FET pinchoff. View full abstract»

The nodal voltage simulation technique described for generating new active RC filters has been shown to be applicable to the derivation of MOSFET-C filters from active RC filters. The application of the method to Tarmy-Ghausi active RC filter is considered. Further, two MOSFET-C biquads based on the Tow-Thomas active RC biquad are proposed. View full abstract»

The function e-x2has many well-known mathematical properties. Here it is shown that if a stationary process has a Gaussian-shaped acf, then its PARCOR coefficients decay exponentially. View full abstract»

A computationally efficient modified Fano algorithm for decoding of convolutional codes, recently proposed by the authors [1] has been further studied through simulation. Computational efforts and the BER performance of the original Fano and the modified Fano algorithms have been compared for the i) BSC and ii) Rayleigh fading channel with flat fading assumption. For the simulation example, the pe... View full abstract»

A general technique for updating a previously calculated power spectrum upon the reception of a new real data sample is presented. The technique is based on the Hartley transform which provides a fast and simple technique for the updating. Only N real multiplications and 2N + 1 real additions are needed for each update. Here we propose a novel fractal-graph approach to complement the usual graph-theoretic methods which are critically limited when applied to large networks with their continued growth and dynamic characteristics. This fractal-graph approach uses the sometimes hidden underlying order inherent in typical networks and focusses on their global properties. This allows a prescription both for the growth ... • Load frequency control incorporating time delay

This letter discusses a load frequency control scheme incorporating the computation delay time in the control law. When there is a computation delay in determining feedback gains, the incorporation of the time delay is necessary for the improvement of dynamic responses. The influences of the delay time on the responses are investigated using a two-area load frequency model. View full abstract»
