Providing voice and data communications to people away from their wireline telephones has become a major communication frontier. This frontier is being penetrated by evolving approaches to portable communications, e.g., cordless telephones, mobile radiotelephone, and radio paging. However, these approaches have many limitations; none can provide universal portable communications services. This pap... View full abstract»

  • A unified structural interpretation of some well-known stability-test procedures for linear systems

A number of well-known stability-test procedures for continuous-and discrete-time systems are re-examined in a unified manner, leading to well-defined network-theoretic interpretations. The representation and network interpretation are based on the fact that the stability of any linear system (scalar or multivariable) is equivalent to the stability of a related all-pass system, which in turn can a... The progress in radar cross section measurements is strongly related to the progress in radar technology. The recent acceleration in radar technology and processing techniques has generated a corresponding acceleration in interest for radar cross section measurements. Historically, early radar cross section measurements were performed to determine the detection range of radar systems, a fundamenta... View full abstract»

  • Potential distribution inside a closed cavity in terms of surface potentials

    Publication Year: 1987, Page(s):517 - 519

An analytical expression for the potential distribution inside certain cavities is obtained. This expression is based on the equipotential surface considerations as produced by two confining surfaces at a time. The results obtained for several geometries agree to better than 93 percent with the results obtained numerically using the finite difference formulation. View full abstract»

Time-domain phase unwrapping of analytic or complex functions of time is an unavoidable operation when processing such signals within an FM-modeling framework or when attempting to establish the instantaneous frequency of such signals. With the help of an alternate derivation of his equations, Tribolet's frequency-domain phase unwrapping algorithm is easily rewritten for time-domain application. T... View full abstract»

  • On improving the performance of a digital tanlock loop

This letter presents an improved digital tanlock loop (DTL) based on a multi-sampling scheme. It yields extended locking range, and reduced steady-state mean and variance of phase error as compared to the conventional DTL. The performance of the first-order DTL is analyzed in the presence of white Gaussian noise, and compared to the conventional DTL. View full abstract»

  • A remark on the definition of Costas arrays

A weaker definition of Costas arrays is shown to be equivalent to the standard one. A Costas array is a diagram whose corresponding frequency-hopping pattern has good range-doppler ambiguity properties. Our result implies that even when we demand ostensibly less restrictive ambiguities in the doppler direction, the resulting waveform becomes a Costas waveform. View full abstract»

  • Fast interpolation algorithm using fast Hartley transform

The use of fast Hartley transform for fast discrete interpolation is considered. The computational method uses the sprit-radix algorithm which requires the least number of operations compared with other Hartley algorithms. Results from this method are compared with those using the fast Fourier transform. View full abstract»
