Semiconductors, through their pervasion of electronics, are leading to the availability of low-cost computational capabaility. This has manifested itself in a variety of products ranging from low end calculators, learning aids, and games to minicomputers and office systems, to supercomputers. These products, in turn, are pervading the home, the office, the factory, small business, the military, en... View full abstract»

The development and utilization of techniques for civilian-oriented satellite remote sensing of the earth began in the early 1960's with the launch and operation of meteorological and weather satellites. Among the numerous sensing systems that have since been transported into space for experimental and operational purposes, the four satellites in the Landsat series have played a leading role in es... A mathematical model is given for the concepts of problem and solution, and related to activities in other branches of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Three techniques are described for guiding the search for the solution of a given problem: to wit, the branch and bound or A*technique of Hart, Nilsson, and Raphael [1]; the Geneva Problem Solver (GPS) of Simon, Newell, and Shaw [2]; and th... • Inductance formulas for circular and square coils

Some simple inductance formulas are given for a circular or square coil of any shape ratio. Each one represents a continuous transition between the extremes of a long coil and a short coil. A unique case is a cubic coil whose inductance is 2/3 the reference value based on area/length. For any shape, the relative error is very small and is stated. The theoretical formulas are given for comparison. View full abstract»

A classification of multiterminal distributed resistive structures with respect to significant electrical symmetries is presented. The basic properties of matricial terms of indefinite Yiand Zimatrices are given. Two new families of particular structures are introduced: dual-symmetrical and complete-symmetrical structures which were used successfully for testing the accuracy ... View full abstract»

  • Resistance of the nearest two vertices of polyhedric networks

    Publication Year: 1982, Page(s):1452 - 1453

A network consisting of unit resistance arranged on the edges of a regular polyhedron is called a polyhedric network. The resistance of the nearest two vertices of a polyhedric network is shown to be R = (V - 1)/E, where V is the number of vertices and E is the number of edges. View full abstract»

  • A phase-controlled force-commutated DC motor drive with line power factor improvement

A reliable new chopper for the control of dc traction motors is presented. Design criteria of the chopper are described. Performance characteristics of the motor are computed and compared with the conventional phase control to establish the superiority of the chopper and the preferred type of control. Experimental verification of the basic ideas involved is carried out. View full abstract»

The vacuum-deposited Al/YZ LiNbO3interface has been studied by fabricating a surface acoustic wave (SAW) color-TV IF filter for the European PAL standard with 38.9-MHz vision carrier. An interfacial layer is formed whenever Al is deposited on the LiNbO3surface. This interfacial layer, which is attributed to the reaction product of aluminum with lithium niobate, causes the pos... The body currents induced in a human in conductive contact with various ungrounded metallic objects like cars, trucks, fences, etc., are calculated for the frequency band 10 kHz to 10 MHz. The calculated incident E-fields required to produce thershold perception and let-go currents indicate that the recently proposed ANSI guideline of 100 mW/cm2(∼615 V/m) in the frequency band 0.3...
