Three-dimensional display techniques can be classified as binocular and autostereoscopic types, still and animated types, nontransmitted and transmitted types, and nonholographic and holographic types. This paper deals mainly with autostereoscopic still nontransmitted techniques. Holographic and nonholographic tecniques are described on about equal footing. For the sake of brevity, emphasis is pla... View full abstract»

This paper is a survey of error-correcting codes, with emphasis on the costs of encoders and decoders, and the relationship of these costs to various important system parameters such as speed and delay. Following an introductory overview, the remainder of this paper is divided into three sections corresponding to the three major types of channel noise: white Gaussian noise, interference, and digit... Binary maximal-length linear feedback shift register sequences (m-sequences) have been successfully employed in communications, navigation, and related systems over the past several years. For the early applications, m-sequences were used primarily because of their excellent periodic autocorrelation properties. For many of the recent systems applications, however, the crosscorrelation properties o... View full abstract»

  • On the deflection effect of light reflected from a moving mirror in the ether theory

    Publication Year: 1980, Page(s):621 - 622
Request permission for commercial reuse | Click to expandAbstract | PDF file iconPDF (252 KB)

The classical formula for the aberration angle of deflection angle of light reflected from moving mirror in ether is presented. The formula, confirmed in experiments and observations, differs from both classical and relativistic formulas derived by Ashworth and Davies. View full abstract»

  • Mixed autoregressive-moving average modeling of the response of a linear array antenna to incident plane waves

It is shown that when a linear array of antenna elements is excited by a set of plane waves, the resulting response of the array may be modelled as a special form of mixed autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) process in which the autoregressive and moving average parts have the same parameters. This model provides the basis for applying the Pisarenko spectral decomposition to estimate the angles o... View full abstract»

  • A new criterion for investigating the characteristics of linear systems

    Publication Year: 1980, Page(s):624 - 625

A criterion which guarantees complete controllability and complete observability of linear systems is derived. It is shown that if the output covariance of the system, when excited by stationary white noise, be separable and the components of the separating vectors be linearly independent, then the system is completely controllable and observable. This criterion is specially significant in designi... View full abstract»

  • Parametric bandpass filters for simulation with generalized immittance converters

    Publication Year: 1980, Page(s):626 - 627

Methods proposed for the simulation of LC ladder band-pass filters with generalized immittance converters (GIC's) are reviewed, and the advantages of a recently proposed approach are emphasized. An alternative to an inexact approximation used to reduce element value spread is found in the design methods for parametric bandpass filters, and pertinent references are given. View full abstract»

The results of the study of sputtered molybdenum-silicon contact is reported. The contact resistance has been found to be in the range of 3-6 µΩ ċ cm2when the composite structure is annealed at 1050°C for 30 min in nitrogen ambient. Application of passivating layer of boron-doped glass over the molybdenum and subsequent annealing at the said temperature reduced this ... View full abstract»

This letter extends some earlier work by Max [1] on signal quantization to an input signal which may belong to one of several possible signal models. An optimum quantizer is derived and an example presented for illustration. View full abstract»

Using the variance measure of duration, it is shown that the duration of a signal is composed of two terms. The first term is the duration of the zero-phase equivalent signal, and the second term is the variance of the phase derivative of the Fourier transformed signal. View full abstract»

  • Bandwidth of fast memory in multiprocessing

A Markov chain analysis is presented for evaluating the average memory bandwidth of a multiple microprocessor system where the random access memory modules have a cycle time shorter than the processor cycle time. The results are useful in the design of such systems, as well as in the understanding of the effects of such processor-memory speed mismatches. View full abstract»

A new method for reducing the intermodulation interference of frequency division multiplexed signals is described. Examples using 24 carriers illustrate the principle. The carriers are divided into groups which are amplified separately. Each group consists of appropriate carrier allocations which yield few intermodulation products coincident with the carriers of that group. View full abstract»

A method to develop an acceptance curve using absolute power quantities obtained from wind power available in literature and direct laboratory measurement of dissipation powers of damper and conductor in question is advanced. It is an easy-to-understand and relatively-simple-to-apply technique of damper evaluation and would be helpful to the manufacturer and user of dampers in overhead transmissio... View full abstract»
