An automatic method for obtaining the numerical solution of a certain class of second-order nonlinear optimal control problems with differential and integral constraints is described. The nonlinear two-point boundary value problem is solved using the Newton-Raphson method for obtaining successive approximations of the solution. The derivatives required for the solution of the problem are computed ... View full abstract»

DESIRE is a new interactive simulation system for minicomputers. DESIRE is exceptionally convenient for modelling new control systems because, unlike earlier continuous-system simulation systems, it executes directly on a RUN command and still runs 1.3 to 5 times faster than minicomputer Fortran. Experimenters can see effects of system as well as parameter changes without noticeable translation de... View full abstract»

An introductory control systems laboratory is presented which uses a microcomputer to provide an automated and highly flexible set of experiments. Most of the important theoretical concepts which are presented in an introductory course in control systems are illustrated through experiments on an electro-mechanical system. These experiments provide students with a physical insight into the theory. View full abstract»
