  • On the evaluation of roundoff noise in digital filters

    The usual method of measuring the roundoff noise generated in a digital filter may lead, at least in case of sign-magnitude truncation, to an excessive result due to incomplete cancellation of the useful output signal.     The problem of designing recursive digital filters can be reduced to polynomial approximation on a finite interval.     A new kind of circuit analysis program, EL, is presented. Whereas other circuit analysis systems rely on classical, formal, analysis techniques, EL employs heuristic "inspection" methods to solve rather complex dc bias circuits.
