A short account of research into active suspension systems for volume manufactured road vehicles is given. A possible response to difficulties with component weight, cost and power consumption is to change the conventional operating principle, so that actuation is used to vary the leverage ratio between passive force-producing elements and road wheels. Aspects of the design and performance of such... View full abstract»

A scheme is presented which greatly enhances the performance of a digital filter by selecting a value for the sampling period which minimises the overall error. The article illustrates how such a scheme may be automated in software to produce a tool for digital filter design. View full abstract»

Networks have become a common feature in the office environment, allowing access to e-mail and the Internet, linking computers together and allowing several computers to access one printer. As more people want to be linked electronically, how are network technologies going to cope with the increased demand? This article looks at asynchronous transfer mode as one possible solution to this problem. View full abstract»
