A short review of research and applications in machine learning is given. Rather than attempt to cover all areas of ML, the focus is on its role in building expert systems, its approach to classification problems and ML methods of learning control. A relatively new area, inductive logic programming, is also discussed. View full abstract»

AGVs are automatic load carriers that transfer objects from one location to another in a factory environment. Due to the increasing complexity of factory floor environments coupled with the need for increased flexibility in AGV systems, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to control AGV fleets dynamically. A neural network based method for controlling AGVs is presented. View full abstract»

The article presents a novel modular medical decision support system, called Georgia, that has been evaluated in the Regional Hospital in Patras, for general use in the field of pulmonary diseases. Georgia can suggest potential diseases and recommend treatment for the disease to the physician. It is the first system by which a whole category of distressed body organs' diseases can be identified an... View full abstract»

The article reports an experiment in which the effects of the pitch, speed and the loudness of auditory signals on both subjective perceived urgency and response time are explored. The results show that the signals producing the highest ratings of perceived urgency, as well as the fastest response times, are those with a high frequency, a fast speed and a high level of loudness. Increases in all t... View full abstract»
