  • A Method Based on Digital Image Analysis for Estimating Crop Canopy Parameters

    This research is attempted to estimate the biomass and leaf area index through identifying the cotton canopy and background pixels accurately. Cotton canopy was captured in different growth period of cotton by using an Olympus C740 Ultra Zoom digital camera. A protocol mixed hue of HLS color space with R, G value was setup and multiple judgment process was designed to extract cotton canopy pixels from background noise. A computer program based on the protocol above was designed simultaneity. Relation between PGCV that derived from the designed program and cotton canopy biomass or LAI with different N application and in different growth stages suggested that PGCV could reliably evaluate both biomass and LAI, empirical statistical showed that a significantly high coefficient between PGCV and cotton canopy biomass or LAI reached (r=0.97, respectively).     Based on the analysis of the bioenergy crop production function of land use, combined with the current situation of Chinese land use, this paper analyzes and discusses the cultivation of energy plants and the bioenergy crop production function of land use. Results show that there is a lot of unused land and marginal land to plant bioenergy crops to perform the bioenergy crop production function of land use, which have a great potential, and currently there are no food production problems. Therefore, it is very important for China to emphasize bioenergy crops planting in order to fully use land resources, moderate the energy crisis and increase farmers' income. View full abstract»

    Measuring of fruit tree canopy parameters were required for site-specific management of fruit orchard such as estimation of fruit yield, variable rate application of fertilizer and pesticides precisely on each tree. For riding the effect cased by tractor deviation in driving path between two rows of trees and uneven ground, measuring was designed based on CAN bus, combined robot navigation technology, including AHRS and DGPS-RTK, with the measuring of fruit tree canopy characters, and used C8051F040 micro controller as node ECU. The hardware circuit was introduced in detail, the forming of CAN transmission information frame and software were also analyzed. Experiment with litchi trees in orchard using four ultrasonic sensors showed that system was stable, having highly repeatability (R2=0.9341, RMSE=1.22m3) and accuracy (R2=0.8972, RMSE=1.766m3) of canopy volume measuring.     This paper describes a realistic interactive method for modeling leaves which incorporates a number of interesting techniques. Using a 2D leaf image as input, this method first extracts a set of feature points by image processing and manual interaction. Second, we use these feature points to generate the leaf shape by double silhouette-axis skeleton method. Finally, Laplacian surface editing is applied for deformation to produce a real leaf model.   • Analysis on Uniformity of Seeding Based on Photoelectronic Detection Principle

    For problems existing in seed-metering device uniformity testing, use photoelectric detection technology on seeding uniformity testing. Its working principle is to use optical sensors to monitor the situation that seeds passing through the seed channel, records the cumulative number of seeds of each channel by counting chips and MCU and periodically send to the PC, obtaining relevant data such as seeding uniformity of seed-metering device through further data analysis. Tests showed that under the same conditions, relative error between test data of the system and manual measured data is less than 5%, meet the actual needs. At the same time, compared to manual measurement, the system also has advantages of low cost, easy operation, without calculation and continuous online work available. View full abstract»

    Test of bench performance to the power of tractor PTO (power take-off ) is a necessary way to evaluate the economic and dynamic performance. So the bracket of engine bench testing is essential equipment, and the effect of DC electric dynamometer used in PTO power test is investigated in this paper. Realizing the process to achieve automatic control and automatic recording, thus greatly reducing the labor intensity of testing personnel and the human error in the testing process, but also greatly increased the accuracy of the test results.     Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents a significant fraction of the total amount of carbon involved in the global carbon cycle. Hyperspectral remote sensing has a valuable role in the monitoring of the dynamics of SOC. This study focused upon improving the accuracy of SOC quantification by applying wavelet analysis to reflectance spectra. Spectral measurements for all soil samples (three sub-regions in the northern Tianshan Mountains, China) were performed in a controlled laboratory environment. The results demonstrated that by decomposing soil spectra, the resultant wavelet coefficients can be used to generate higher R2 with SOC contents (R2 >;0.95) compared to reflectance spectra (R2 <;0.63) and derivative reflectance (R2 ≤0.8). In addition, the selection of optimum scales and wavelengths play a key role in analyzing SOC using continuous wavelet transform. In this study, the optimum correlation between wavelet coefficients and SOC contents were appeared in scale 50-100 at around 2300 nm, and derivative reflectance may be more suitable as input to wavelet analysis than reflectance spectra. These results provided an insight for studying the global carbon cycle by predicting the changes of C in terrestrial ecosystems using hyperspectral remote sensing data. View full abstract»

  • Design and Prototyping a Harvester for Litchi Picking

    Litchi is a very important economic fruit in Guangdong and Guangxi, China. At present, litchi is still harvested manually. Litchi harvesting machinery could help speed up litchi picking. In this paper, design, modeling and prototyping of a litchi harvester were discussed. An experiment was made to compare harvesting speed among picking by hand, picking by manual fruit picker and picking by litchi harvester. Experimental results indicated that litchi harvester can speed up litchi picking in the long term, and picking by litchi harvester is significantly faster than by hand in picking high tree fruit.     In order to rapidly measure the residue of pesticide reside in the atmosphere of greenhouse, this paper proposes a scheme about the portable Potentiostat based on C8051F020 chip. It could magnify weak current signal to voltage signal which could identified. To test the performance of the instrument, a testing was carried out using a circuit model which is equivalent to the three electrode electrochemical sensor.     In order to realize the pinpoint of the work machinery in the paddy field, the receiver which can be used in the laser three-point location system has been designed. The laser receiver consists of MCU process circuit, photoelectric detection circuit, multi-channel gating circuit and differential mode amplify circuit. The photoelectric detection circuit is used to receive the laser signal, the multi-channel gating circuit is controlled by MCU to select the channel, the differential mode amplify circuit is used to eliminate the influence from natural light and the MCU process circuit is used to process the signals. The test results show that the laser receive circuit can receive the laser signals efficiently, filter the natural light and meet the requirement of the laser location in the short distance.   • Detect Black Germ in Wheat Using Machine Vision

    The objective of this research is to develop algorithm to recognize black germ wheat based on image processing. The sample used for this study involved wheat from major producing areas of China. Images of wheat were acquired with a color linear CCD machine vision system. Each image was pre-processed to correct color offset. Then double threshold method was used to segment black germ from background and other area in wheat. Combining morphological and extracted feature gave a highly acceptable classification. The high classification accuracies obtained using a small number of features indicate the potential of the algorithm for on-line inspection of black germ wheat in industrial environment. The overall average classification accuracy among the involved varieties reaches above 93%.     Recently, traditional rules of male sterile lines and restorer lines to regularization planting, with harvesting respectively, labor intensive, uneven pollination, and seriously affecting to the quality and yield of seeds, have been changed by the technology of Engineered Seeding Production, which can reduce the production cost and greatly raise the level of seeds breeding mechanization. But, there are also many problems, in particular, purity of the seeds and high working efficiency are hard to guarantee. So developing a separator is the crux of further popularization. On the basis of parents in different lengths, this paper designs a model Indent Cylinder Separator to study dynamics analysis, and obtains the factors influencing the results of separation are radius, angular velocity and rake angle of the cylinder. Meanwhile, mathematics models between structural, kinetic parameters of the cylinder and different lengths seeds are founded to provide theory basis for further study of structure and parameter design.   • Experimental Study on Pricking Hole Performances of Deep Application Liquid Fertilizer Device

    In order to meet the needs of different spacing and depth of intertillage crops, a kind of liquid fertilizer device which can apply liquid fertilizer deeply into the soil was designed. Rotational speed of planetary frame, forward speed of test-bed vehicle, the distance between rotating center of planetary wheel axle and spraying fertilizer needle-tip were selected as factors, experiment was designed using quadratic orthogonal-rotation combination, then the influence law of the interaction of various factors on the distance between holes and the depth into the soil were analyzed using response surface method. The optimum factors are obtained under good operating conditions: the forward speed of test-bed vehicle is 0.56m/s, the distance between rotating center of planetary wheel axle and spraying fertilizer needle-tip is 285mm, at this time, the distance between holes is 220mm, the depth into the soil is 108mm. Verification experiment was carried out according to the optimum factors, experimental results show that the obtained distance between holes can meet the design requirements, and the depth into the soil can achieve the depth requirement.
