Abstract

A beat counting method, which can allow a theoretically infinite transmitter frequency drift of the channel selection process, has been proposed for the implementation of a multichannel random access tunable heterodyne receiver. A channel switching time of less than 15 ms for a 150 GHz tuning range was obtained. It was confirmed that the proposed method would be very useful for the realisation of a multichannel (600 Mbit/s, 16 channel in the experiment) broadcasting system.
