Abstract
Mobile positioning and related user profile supported control of wireless networks will become a key role in future network optimisation and applications with upcoming location services. We describe a movement prediction scheme based on user profiles involving a mobile-device-based positioning method using cell-ID and radio signal strength indicators of the serving cell and its neighbours. The developed approach can be applied, for instance, for location estimation, handover support in future wireless networks as well as a backup positioning concept for navigation systems.
