Abstract
The US Department of Energy has an ambitious R&D program under
way to make rapid strides toward enhancing the Nation's capability to
protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from destabilizing
energy-related critical infrastructure protection events. Work is
already under way on two of nine research and development activities:
the Infrastructure Assurance Outreach Program (vulnerability
assessments) and the Energy Infrastructure Interdependencies Program.
The two thrust areas of the R&D program are analysis and risk
management and protection and mitigation technologies
