Abstract
This paper describes work carried out by the authors and others in
developing computer based teaching modules to assist in undergraduate
teaching. The Paper concentrates on one illustrative example of a
module, from a suite currently under development by the CALGroup
consortium of which the University of Reading is a member. The paper
describes the development process from conception of needs, planning,
authoring, testing through to implementation into the teaching syllabus
and testing its effectiveness. The paper concludes with a discussion of
the relative merits of CAL and authoring systems such as Authorware
