Abstract
The author describes how, this year, the Aegean island of Agios
Efstratios will begin installing a field demonstration of a combined
wind-turbine/diesel generating system. The author outlines this
generating system and shows how the problem of energy storage
requirements (to cover short-term fluctuations in wind speed) has been
overcome by the adoption of a flywheel system
