Vision systems are using the wrong kind of information!

A band-limited image can be exactly reconstructed from Nyquist samples of that image. However for vision systems that perform a task, such as pattern recognition, there is no requirement to reconstruct the input image. The automatic pattern recognition task may be performed more effectively and more economically when the necessary broadband image information is obtained, with many fewer pixel samples, by variance sampling.
