Abstract
This letter introduces a new concept in current commutation for matrix converters that minimizes the commutation time and, hence, enhances the output waveform quality. This commutation technique overcomes all the waveform quality problems associated with dead times in inverter-based circuits without the need for compensation. Practical results from a 10-kVA matrix converter are presented.
