A novel optimizer for the lumber industry

It is noted that although optimizers already provide the sawmill industry with the high-speed cut logic required for mill automation, advances in laser, optical, and electronic technology have set the stage for optimizer improvement. The design of an improved laser profile scanner is discussed, with background information provided when required. The scanner utilizes a high-resolution, subpixel interpolation algorithm, requires less maintenance, and has a longer lifetime than similar devices used in previous generations of optimizers. The subpixel interpolation algorithm increased the measurement resolution and profile spacing and decreased the effect of noise in the scanner.<
