Performance and complexity comparison of CPE algorithms for 256-QAM optical signals

A detailed analysis of different CPE schemes for 256- QAM signals is presented. Viterbi&Viterbi algorithms demonstrate very poor performance, while the best compromise between complexity and performance is achieved using the BPS+MLE algorithm.
