Nonlinear and Coupling Performance of Multicomponent Glass Double Core Photonic Crystal Fiber

Linear and nonlinear properties of multicomponent glass double core photonic crystal fiber were studied using two samples drawn from the same preform with overall diameter 70 mum and 105 mum. Both dispersion and coupling characteristics of the samples were calculated providing information for observed effective supercontinuum generation at pumping in the second communication window. In the case of the 105 mum sample supercontinuum effectivity was enhanced by higher order mode excitation and in the case of the 70 mum sample polarization redirection of the nonlinearly generated light was shown. The coupling performance of both samples was confirmed by linear experiments expressing spectral and fiber length dependence of the two core illumination ratio at the fiber end. The obtained results represent a motivation for application these special photonic crystal fibers both for spectroscopy and telecommunication applications.
