Abstract
The invention presented in this article is an energy-efficiency enhanced switched reluctance motor. The conventional one has flux reversals which means higher hysteresis and eddy current losses resulting in higher core losses and, hence, in lower efficiency. The invention described here overcomes this disadvantage with flux distribution for phase A and B excitations. The present invention also has the distinct advantage in that only two-thirds of the stator iron is utilized for any operating condition at any time compared to the full stator iron in conventional machines and thus increases efficiency. Since it is inherently a variable-speed motor drive, it will improve the efficiency as much as 20-25% in many applications, resulting in less energy consumption and thus making a positive impact on the environment.
