Abstract
A low cost single controllable switch, single power diode power converter for switched reluctance drive systems is demonstrated in this paper. The introduction of this converter is yet another step in the switched reluctance machine's movement towards full implementation in the high volume, low precision commercial applications market. With the lowest number of power devices and thus using the least possible PCB real estate, a full four-quadrant single-phase SRM drive with reliable starting can be realized using this converter topology
