Recollections on microwave theory

The author presents a personal retrospective and anecdotal recollection of a small part of the MIT Radiation Laboratory's World War II activities, namely that facet which contributed to the development of the theory of the propagation of microwaves in waveguides. It is pointed out that the subsequent development of optical and acoustical waveguides, and currently of electron guides, in mesoscopic systems owes much to this early microwave work.<
