Operating Temperature Influence on Performance of 10 MW Wind Turbine HTS Generators

Magnetic flux density in vital parts of wind turbine high-temperature superconductor (HTS) generators is simulated. The calculated key parameters, including field leakage coefficient, maximum field current, and refrigerator power of wind turbine HTS generators (WTHG) with REBCO field pole windings, are studied with different operating temperatures of 40 K-77 K. Basic performance and cost of WTHG at different operating temperatures are comparatively investigated with counterparts of conventional generators. It is concluded that 68 K is a preferable operating temperature for 10 MW WTHG.
