Virtualized Environment Issues in The Context of A Scientific Private Cloud

This chapter presents an approach using the virtualization advancements, and the knowledge obtained by tests results to verify the use of hybrid virtual environments, that is, composed of two types of hypervisors/virtual machine management (VMM), to support scientific applications. These hybrid models are created based on characteristics of the running applications, combining the use of different types of hypervisors, at the same time, using the best features of each one, to improve the execution performance. The evaluation of the use of these hybrid models and their analysis were motivated by a real demand, to provide access to a Cloud Appliance with a graphical interface (GUI) for distributed image-processing applications. The basic idea is to offer users remote access to virtualized platforms dedicated to their needs and hosted in a Cloud environment.
