Behavioral Modeling and High-Level Simulation

The analysis of nonideal effects allows us to derive precise equivalent circuits and models for the different CMOS ?>?> modulators building blocks. This chapter shows how these models can be used for improving the accuracy and computational efficiency of system-level simulations. It first describes the systematic top-down/bottom-up synthesis methodology commonly followed to design ?>?>Ms. Then, it compares the different simulation approaches that can be used for the evaluation of ?>?>Ms, emphasizing on the benefits of behavioral simulation techniques. Next, it focuses on the behavioral modeling technique, and shows an efficient way of implementing ?>?>M block models in SIMULINK. Finally, the chapter presents SIMulink-based SIgma-DElta simulator (SIMSIDES), a time-domain behavioral simulator implemented in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment that is based on the behavioral modeling techniques.
