Repeater-less length equalisation efficiency in 10 Gb/s optical communication systems using Cp-OAPF

Chromatic dispersion (CD) equalisation will be discussed in this paper with an alternative method, cascaded parallel optical all pass filter (Cp-OAPF), to equalise within a 10 Gb/s single mode fibre (SMF). The CD is due to the phase delay within the SMF. The Cp-OAPF acts as a phase equaliser which will invert the effect of SMF phase delay. Simulation results at BER of 10

showed that the proposed equaliser can increase of 1.6 times in the CD equalisation range compared to system employing p-OAPF with nonreturn to zero rectangular and Gaussian pulses at 10Gb/s. The Cp-OAPF is capable to compensate CD over a wide range of 109 and 98 km when the input is rectangular and Gaussian pulse, respectively for error free BER.
