Efficient technique for 3-D edge element method considering geometrical symmetry

When geometry of a model is symmetric but the current distribution is not, periodic boundary condition can not be applied to the analysis. In this paper, an efficient method for resolving this problem in the 3-D edge element method is proposed It is shown that the novel technique that adopts the domain decomposition method (DDM) is easy to implement compared with the conventional group representation theory and it enables one to take full advantage of symmetry. The limitation of the method and consideration of nonlinearity are discussed as well. The method is applied to a deflection yoke (DY), and validity and efficiency are verified.
