The 3G family of mobile communication standards specifications describe a streaming media service class designed for the provision of non-delay critical multimedia services. This paper describes the performance of streaming audio and video services over EGPRS (Enhanced General Packet Radio Service) networks under different network and channel conditions. Enhancements to the EGPRS radio link control mechanisms are proposed, and the resulting quality improvements of the received media streams are examined
