This paper attempts to explore the business benefits and technical improvements that can be made by adopting a safety first approach to the solving of airfield electrical problems. The paper deals mainly with developments at Warton associated with the upgrading of the airfield and its routine maintenance. Over a ten year period most aspects of the airfield's electrical systems, from the basic mains supply through back-up generators and UPS systems to AGL have been upgraded to improve safety, reliability and reduce maintenance
