Higher-order statistics of random signals are reviewed. After some basic definitions and terminology are established, these statistics are applied to various example signals, including WCDMA formats. New models for amplifier heating and breakdown are described that depend on higher-order signal statistics. We show how higher-order statistics can be employed to predict performance degradation of amplifiers and other hardware components in 3G WCDMA systems
