In this paper, we introduce the concept of hierarchical global views to support query reformulation in mediator architectures. In particular, we show how the characteristics of a cluster hierarchy can be exploited in the query reformulation phase in order to comply with the user information requirements, expressed in terms of answer precision and recall under response time constraints, which are well-known indexes of performance in information retrieval
