An experimental process has been developed to compare the performance of candidate military satellite communications (SATCOM) architectures. Because a traffic scenario can drive the performance of an architecture model, several scenarios are developed representing the major classes of traffic types. Models of each architecture are then executed with each scenario to provide a relative assessment of the performance of each. Finally, by viewing the entire experiment (i.e., the series of scenarios and results), we develop a relative utility surface over the space of traffic scenarios and define the regions where each architecture excels
