A new lightweight RF connection using electromagnetic coupling through an aperture in a finite thick wall is presented. The measured data prove that the electrical performance in terms of attenuation of this new transition is nearly 1 dB better than a conventional transition. Concerning other parameters like the return loss and decoupling the same performance as with conventional connectors is achieved over the band of interest. From the mechanical viewpoint this aperture coupled transition is smaller, more lightweight, more easy to integrate and more cost effective.
