Open distributed management of telecom systems: the missing link

This paper presents an architecture for a distributed open management system. After a discussion of current deficiencies of the ISO OSI information model for manaoement information structure, we will introduce the "Missing Link", a distributed information layer as an extension of the standard. The consequences for the manager-agent model will be outlined as well as the possibilities one gains with the new model. Next the achievements of the DOMAINS project will be discussed which developed a information structuring model on a distributed object oriented approach. Both the Domains Management Architecture (DMA)and the Object-Oriented Architecture (OOA) can be ported to different platforms. This enables real open distributed management.
