A unique kind of noise appears in pulse density modulated (PDM) signals generated by 1-bit delta-sigma type A/D converters. We choose to call this "code noise." It is due to the limited number of codes used to characterize the input below 20% and above 80% of full-scale. The mathematical basis is derived and the resulting noise plotted for a variety of word lengths.
