In this paper, the design of an N-subband coding scheme employing IIR digital filters, is investigated. It has been shown that the system reduces to the design of a single IIR filter from which the rest of the analysis and synthesis filters are derived. A simple rapidly convergent algorithm is presented for the design of this filter. Apart from ensuring stability, flexibility of meeting any stringent specifications, the design algorithm results in equiripple loss behavior over its bands of interest. Illustrative examples are given
