This paper highlights some of the most important minimum requirements for a successful “More Electric” aircraft power generation and distribution system. The need for reliable power electronics is discussed. A new multipurpose power converter concept is introduced along with a powerful new architecture for implementing a more electric fault tolerant generating and distribution system. The possibility of introducing conventional utility ground power for main engine starting is accommodated by the new architecture
