This paper describes work which has been carried out on a fault tolerant aircraft fuel pump drive and goes on to present details of further work which addresses the power interface to the aircraft power system. It became clear that the most successful design approach involved a multiple phase drive in which each phase is regarded as a single module. The operation of any one module has minimal impact upon the others, so that in the event of that module failing the others continue to operate unaffected
