This article presents a generic tool for representing the topologies of computer networks in the design phase. Named DESNET (design of networks), this tool which is suitable for several levels of user permits the extraction from a database of known networks, the deletion of existing networks, and the acquisition and storage of new networks. It also permits the user to execute routing across a network, the effect of communication flows and capacities, and the evaluation of certain performance indices of a network. DESNET compares advantageously with most network representation tools on the market or found in the literature
