Conservative Gaussian models applied to measurement-based admission control

Addresses the admission control problem for leaky bucket controlled sources when assuming fluid flows and employing bufferless multiplexing. We have derived new conservative upper bounds enabling us to use the simple admission criteria associated with a Gaussian distribution for the bit rate offered to a link. The derived upper bounds are exact and no longer rely on the central limit theorem, which required a very large number of sources. Necessary parameters involved in these bounds can be derived from declared or measured values by means of pre-calculated tables. Exponentially weighted moving average schemes seem to offer fair effectiveness in terms of precision and convergence speed.
