Deployment of IPv6 in accordance with a well-managed plan sets the stage for successful deployment and the beginning of ongoing post-deployment management of an IPv4/IPv6 network. This chapter discusses some common management tasks, starting with configuration, then move on to the other categories. It discusses common tasks required particularly related to managing IP address space and device configurations. These tasks relate to the day-to-day business-driven activities impacting the network planner with respect to moves, adds and changes for devices, subnets, new office locations, and so on. The chapter also talks about fault management, which encompasses not only fault detection, but also alert notification, trouble isolation capabilities, trouble tracking, and problem resolution processes. Other topics covered in the chapter are accounting management, performance management, security management, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
