Transcutaneous oximetry and dynamic modelling

Ischaemic tissue damage is a common symptom of a various diseases of arterial, venous or lymphatic ethiology. The stage of ischaemic damage can be evaluated by the transcutaneously measured tissue oxygen partial pressure (TcpO/sub 2/). Single TcpO/sub 2/ measurement is tasked by different variability sources causing the TcpO/sub 2/ is not generally used in daily clinical practice. A new method of dynamic TcpO/sub 2/ monitoring is presented which is based on tissue response to the increased oxygen delivery which is ensured by the hyperbaric oxygenotherapy. The evaluation of measured data is solved by regression dynamic models constructed according to pathophysiologic laws such as Krogh's model of oxygen tissue distribution which is derived from Fick's laws of diffusion and it describes the radial diffusion of oxygen from the centrally situated capillary.
