This paper presents a description of SciDB, as it exists in late 2012. Previous papers [1, 2] have presented many of the design decisions. Hence, we focus here on what we have learned since the previous SciDB papers, “sweet spot” application areas, performance comparisons against other possible solutions, and other plausible approaches to managing data with a workload consisting of a mix of data management and complex analytics. Also included is a brief history of the project.
