My name is Emilio Gatti. Born in Turin, Italy, in 1922, I lived throughout my high school years in Venice, at the Lido, where my family had recently settled. My father, who held a degree in engineering, served as a lieutenant in the Italian army during World War I. At the end of the war, in 1918, he was discharged from the army in Venice. Enchanted by that unique town, he decided that Venice would be the most suitable and inspiring place to start work as a self-employed architect and civil engineer, the business he had in mind.
