The paper presents a new virus identification method based on a novel segmentation and classification methodology. The reliability of the proposed method is demonstrated using practical images. As the proposed method is invariant to orientation, position and size of virus cells appearing in electron microscope images, it forms a good basis for the practical implementation of a reliable and automatic virus identification system in the future
