A cost-effective compact digital ghost canceling system has been developed. The essential elements of the system are a highly integrated 64-tap transversal filter, a control IC with signal processor, and a unique iteration algorithm. The ghost canceling TV tuner using the system reduces most ghosts to more than 40 dB in S/I, i.e. most residual ghosts are not perceptible. In addition, it cancels ghosts rapidly using a ghost channel memory. The system operates stably for both strong ghosts and low signal-to-noise ratio
