We present new hybrid motion segmentation method. A comparison with classical morphological and motion field segmentation methods shows that it has a better rate-distortion performance when it is used to segment start regions for a region optimization algorithm. Improvements by re-segmentation and a more accurate approximation of the start regions for initialization of the optimization procedure are investigated
