This paper provides an insight of cost effective deployment of wireless sensor network in a large plant to control the environment for optimizing power consumption, while maintaining the desired comfort level for workforce and equipments. Temperature and humidity are the two primary parameters which determine the comfort level. These data need to be analyzed to propose a suitable control scheme for energy efficient environment in the plant. Multi-variability of the system to be controlled such as thermal capacity of the plant, heat dissipation from the devices, equipments, servers, occupancy, weather conditions, etc., offer a greater challenge in the design of energy efficient environment control system. The ability of wireless sensor and actuator networks allows retrofitting and easy deployment to implement multi sensor condition monitoring and thereby energy efficient environment system. This paper discusses control scheme, implementation method, integration strategy and system design for efficient deployment in large plants. This paper also demonstrates WirelessHART based sensors deployed using planning tool, integrated with controller running in the server and output actuation based on the control scheme.
